Juventus coach Luciano Spalletti has explained a rather unique piece of praise for Liverpool’s Federico Chiesa.
The winger is linked with a return to Juve, although matters are complicated with the Serie A side only wanting a loan.
However, if it were up to Spalletti, Chiesa would be on his way back, having starred under him when he was Italy manager.
At the time Spalletti called Chiesa ‘the Jannik Sinner of the national team’ and has now been asked to explain himself with the tennis star already becoming a sporting legend.
“It was a compliment to a player I had in the squad and who has undoubted quality,” he said.
“Jannik is one of the strongest in this repetitiveness, having that face, that consistency, that perseverance.
“I think they’re criticizing Chiesa’s lack of consistency today and not playing him because of that, because his quality remains very high.”
Then commenting on rumours of a return, he added: “But he’s playing for another team now, not ours…”
