A VAR loophole left Juventus’ top brass absolutely losing their minds during a 3-2 defeat to Inter Milan.
The San Siro thriller was marred for a second yellow card on Pierre Kalulu just before the break and replays showed how harsh it was.
As Alessandro Bastoni went past Kalulu, a light brush on the Inter defender’s arm saw him take flight in an almighty dive.
He went on to celebrate Kalulu’s red, and has since had a torrent of abuse online.
League rules state that second yellows aren’t reviewed by VAR, just straight reds, and Juve’s executives lost their minds heading into the break.
Fan footage first caught Luciano Spalletti inches from the referee gesticulating in an approach that will likely get him in trouble.
However, his pleading was nothing compared to CEO Damien Comolli who went straight for the official and had to be pulled back by the head coach.
Eventually the Frenchman gave up, leaving director Giorgio Chiellini to shout abuse from a distance.
Juventus’ squad boycott the media
Both Spalletti and his players boycotted the media post-match, Comolli and Chiellini spoke out.
“What happened tonight is a disgrace. It must never happen again,” Comolli said.
“It’s happened time and time again, and tonight is the perfect example of what we’ve seen all season.
“To see this happen in front of the whole world is simply scandalous.”
Chiellini added: “We can’t talk about football after what happened tonight.
“Something unacceptable happened today. The umpteenth such incident this season, whether it happens to us or others.
“This mistake is unacceptable, ruining such a match and having the referees’ level of performance not up to standard.
“This is the spectacle we’re presenting to the rest of the world. We have to change immediately and stop procrastinating like we always do in Italian football.”
