Having joined Ajax just half a season ago, Jordan Henderson is now set to become the club’s newest captain.
The Englishman, who joined from Liverpool in January, took the armband last season when Steven Bergwijn was absent, and looked likely to keep it when the winger was on the brink of a move to Leicester.
However, that deal has since broken down, but even with Bergwijn back in contention for a Europa League qualifier against Panathinaikos, head coach Francesco Farioli has announced that Henderson will keep the armband.
It now appears that him taking the post on a full-time basis is a formality, and he will become the Eredivisie giant’s 24th captain, following club legends like Luis Suarez, Jaap Stam, Edgar Davids, Dusan Tadic, Danny Blind and Rafael van der Vaart.
