Barcelona president Joan Laporta has given his latest update on the Spotify Camp Nou, and it’s an important one.
Laporta was in discussion with Catalan outlet TV3 when he revealed that the revamped arena is scheduled to be open on August 10th for the Joan Gamper Trophy, a pre-season tournament they hold.
“We want it to be the pilot test for the return; we are working on this idea,” he said.
Laporta previously wanted the stadium to be open for the start of 2025, and then there were issues over rent at Montjuïc which were resolved so they could end the season there.
It’s clear he’s now learned not to rush the project, and the same can be said of the transfer market.
Laporta was big on promising huge moves upon his return, but is trying to slow down expectations as Barca exceed them on the pitch under Hansi Flick.
Asked about two top forward targets, Manchester City’s Erling Haaland and Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams, Laporta passed over them both.
On Haaland, he said: “Although in life almost nothing is impossible, at this moment we are not thinking about making an addition of this type, because he has also just renewed his contract.”
And on Williams he added: “We thought about him at the time because he is an excellent player, but we decided on Dani Olmo and now we are thinking about other options.”
