Mats Hummels has praised every aspect of Harry Kane’s game, except one.
The pair faced off in Germany’s most-watched rivalry with Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich, but since retiring Hummels has been able to fully enjoy watching Kane.
Speaking on the Copa TS podcast, he said: “When Harry Kane has the ball on his right foot within 25 meters of the opponent’s goal, you can already hear this Jabadabadu (Bayern’s goal anthem).
“His clean finishing is particularly impressive. He doesn’t play four players and then chip over the goalkeeper, but instead he rigorously shoots the ball into the bottom left and right corners.
“He’ll be good for a long time to come because he doesn’t rely on his athleticism.
“He’s very strong physically. I didn’t know that before I played against him for the first time. And I was actually always the stronger one in tackles.
“But he’s… wow, wow. He’s physically strong—and he can stay that way for many years to come. And he’s so smart.”
However, Hummels then named one problem, but even admitted he sort of likes it.
“The only issue: His celebration could be more awesome,” he said. “But somehow it’s also awesome because it’s so sober.”
