Gonzalo Garcia has signed a new Real Madrid contract until 2030 with a €1billion release clause.
AS announced the news, with Cadena SER adding that the 21-year-old academy graduate has ‘beaten Endrick’ to the post as Kylian Mbappe’s back up striker.
The youngster shone at the Club World Cup under Xabi Alonso and has now been rewarded with his first full-time first team contract.
Previously possessing a €50m release clause that was attracting Premier League sides, there is no doubt over Madrid‘s commitment to Garcia.
AS also add that Garcia will vacate his No.30 shirt, with LaLiga rules stipulating first team players must have numbers 1 to 25.
Incidentally, the club’s famous No.9 shirt is now available after Mbappe traded it in for his No.10.
€60m Endrick is said to have been eyeing the shirt, and should Garcia get it instead, as is strongly rumoured, it would be a serious blow to the 19-year-old Brazilian who previously seemed determined to stick around at the Bernabeu.
