Victor Edvardsen has felt the full force of Go Ahead Eagles after his ‘bullying’ of Stuttgart’s Angelo Stiller in the Europa League.
The Swedish attacker was seen making a nose gesture during the 4-0 defeat, seemingly mocking Stiller’s cleft lip.
Edvardsen said post-match he didn’t know if he would apologise, but his own captain told him to and even Wesley Sneijder called him a bully.
Now his Eredivisie club have released a comprehensive statement.
“Go Ahead Eagles condemns the behaviour of the Swedish striker,” the said.
“The club has imposed a fine of 500 euros on Edvardsen, which will be donated to the social branch of the club.”
General Director Jan Willem van Dop added: “As a club, we are completely speechless about Victor’s behaviour and we are distancing ourselves from this.
“It’s good that he apologised after finishing, but it’s still a stain in the evening.”
Edvardsen said: “I would like to apologise for my behaviour yesterday.
“Things have been said and done between the two of us that don’t belong on a football field. After finishing, I went to the Stuttgart locker room to apologise.
“I am a role model and must behave accordingly. ”
