A winner of the biggest honours in football, Wesley Sneijder was not at all happy with his old side Ajax on Thursday night.
The Eredivisie giants crashed out of the Europa League to Eintracht Frankfurt, losing 4-1 on the night and 6-2 on aggregate.
Their second leg hammering wasn’t much of a surprise considering the fact that coach Francesco Farioli essentially named a second-choice XI.
Ajax are currently eight points clear at the top of the league and set to win a completely unexpected title, and Farioli clearly put that competition first.
However, Sneijder was among those unhappy with the decision.
Upon seeing the line-up, the 2010 European treble winner said: “That can’t be right?
“It seems a bit like you are admitting that it can’t be turned around anymore. I hope I’m wrong, but this doesn’t give much hope.”
Following the heavy defeat, the pundit then went on the attack.
“Victor Edvardsen suddenly has to play left back. This is destroying players,” he began.
“I find this really horrible to see. You should be ashamed of yourself, really. If you keep playing like this, it can also have an effect on Sunday.
“Ajax has not been playing well for a long time, but has always gotten away with it.”
