Should Ajax fail in their Europa League last 16 tie with Eintracht Frankfurt, their opponents will have some ammunition to take on their coach.
The Eredivisie and Bundesliga sides face off in Europe’s second tier, and Francisco Farioli may not have expected to make such headlines when discussing his opponents ahead of the match.
The Italian, speaking in his second language of English, was asked about Frankfurt’s two recent four-goal defeats to Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen, and may have caused some annoyance.
“Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen dominate the Bundesliga,” he said. “They seem to play a different sport.
“But Eintracht Frankfurt also has a very strong team. They are physically powerful. The average height of their players is probably between 1.85 and 1.90 meters. They are tactically strong and can switch quickly.”
