Bayern Munich honorary president Uli Hoeness thinks he’s had the last laugh at Liverpool and Florian Wirtz.
The outspoke executive chases Wirtz for over a year, inviting his father and agent for dinner and even playing chess with him.
Yet Wirtz ultimately left Bayer Leverkusen for Anfield, with his dad claiming he had the same £116million offer on the table from Bayern.
Things have started poorly for Wirtz and Liverpool, but brilliantly for Bayern, and now Hoeness is having fun.
“They spent 500 million and are having a disastrous season. In my opinion, that’s because you only have superstars now,” he said at an event in Munich.
“I always say: In Liverpool they will soon have to play with five balls because the stars don’t want to give up any more balls.
“Poor Florian Wirtz, he doesn’t get a single ball there because Salah and Szoboszlai and all the others want to play with their own ball.”
