Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz continues to be linked to Bayern Munich, but Uli Hoeness thinks things are getting a little silly.
The reigning Bundesliga Player of the Year is yet to decide on his future and numerous Bayern executives have labelled him their dream player.
Yet according to honorary president Hoeness, who is still the key decision maker at the club, nothing’s happening.
“There’s talk of a €150 million transfer fee. That’s just not serious,” he told Sky.
“Everyone should wait until a decision is made as to whether the player wants to or can leave the club. Then I’ll be ready to comment. But until then, it’s all hocus-pocus.
“Florian Wirtz ‘s parents were at Tegernsee over a year ago. A transfer wasn’t even a consideration.
“And the people who talk such nonsense need to know that the power currently lies entirely with Bayer Leverkusen. They still have a two-year contract.
“If Leverkusen says we’re not letting Wirtz go, then we can stand on our heads. To act now as if this story is over is, I find it totally dubious.
“If Florian Wirtz were to say at some point that he wants to leave Bayer Leverkusen, then we can address the issue.
“Or if Leverkusen sends a signal that they might let the player go – which I don’t see happening either.”
