Raheem Sterling will play his final match for Feyenoord tomorrow before departing the team.
The English winger was signed as a free agent in February after annulling his contract at Chelsea, but has played just seven times and recorded one assist.
Coach Robin van Persie admitted early on that Sterling may not reach full fitness in half a season, and such an eventuality came to fruition.
Sterling has since been benched as Feyenoord fought to cling on to an evaporating top two finish and Champions League spot.
However, with Sterling out of the side, that position was secured with a match to spare.
As such, Van Persie confirmed he will give Sterling a final run out away at PEC Zwolle on Sunday.
Explaining why, he said that Japanese duo Tsuyoshi Watanabe and Ayase Ueda requested a rest ahead of the World Cup.
“I understood that, I went along with it,” said Van Persie, before revealing the pair gifted him Japan shirts as a thank you.
“And I’ll wear them when they play,” he said. “Except for the match against the Netherlands, of course.”
Van Persie added that the club will decided on Sterling ‘later’ but AD say any possibility of him staying is ‘completely ruled out’.
