O Captain! My Captain!
Strasbourg’s main man Emmanuel Emegha was back causing controversy last night after his side were knocked out of the Conference League by Rayo Vallecano.
Rayo finished off the French side in the semi-finals, and a brief respite from the BlueCo ownership anger was over.
Strasbourg fans were back expressing their displeasure with the club at full-time, and then took it out on Emegha, the face of what’s gone wrong.
The Dutch striker has already copped plenty of heat for a summer move to fellow BlueCo side Chelsea.
Boasting over the switch and wearing his future side’s shirt hasn’t gone down well, so when trying to lecture the fans things quickly went downhill.
Strasbourg’s players approached the home end to boos and whistles and Diego Moreira started gesturing down to tell the supporters to calm down.
Emegha, who didn’t play with a long-term injury, then joined in and took centre stage.
Moreira tried to pull him back, but Emegha took control, whipping off his sunglasses and countering the fans’ anger, gesturing at his teammates.
Some reports claim he was asking them why they were booing him when he didn’t play, while others more plausibly claim he was saying to applaud the squad.
Either way, it was a sorry scene for Strasbourg, and with European football next season out of reach, success won’t be available to quell the anger.
