Marseille’s season somehow got even worse at the weekend, and Mason Greenwood has been targeted for a particularly pathetic performance.
OM have been through two coaches, two presidents, and a fired and re-hired sporting director, all while the playing squad have underperformed.
Every half decent result has been followed by a dire one, and a 3-0 defeat to 17th-placed Nantes at the weekend showed just how bad things are.
Marseille could now miss out on European football altogether, and will surely lose star striker Greenwood, with Juventus linked with a move.
However, former OM man and French World Cup winner Christophe Dugarry will be delighted to see the back of the Englishman.
Marseille took a big risk on Greenwood
“This guy was sidelined, he made a huge mistake before Marseille signed him. Marseille took risks to sign him,” he began on an RMC podcast.
“He might never have played football again. Everyone always did everything to put this boy in the best conditions.
“When the games are this important, they throw this in your face. I feel ashamed for him, this guy is a miserable wretch.”
Greenwood’s shameful display
The former Chelsea man continued: “You’re the leader of this team, everyone depends on you.
“When you’re not around, everyone mourns your absence. And what do you give back, what do you give after all the sacrifices, is this?
“You’re a miserable wretch, get out of here.
“There’s the money you’re going to make the club earn, but nobody’s going to cry for you.
“What he did against Nantes is shameful. I saw him walking. There were moments when I just looked at him and the guy was pretending.
“He doesn’t care. I don’t understand how he can have a lawyer today.
“He should be condemned, burned at the stake, without a lawyer. At least pretend.
“He’s telling everyone to ‘go to hell’. Greenwood is an absolute disgrace, he’s a miserable wretch.”
Greenwood was signed by Marseille in after being accused of attempted rape, domestic violence, and coercive control in 2022 while playing for Manchester United – all charges were dropped by his girlfriend in February 2023. This season, he has 25 goals and 10 assists in 48 games.
