There were some bizarrely dystopian scenes at Sweden training with a section of the Toyota Stadium collapsing.
The arena in Frisco is used by Dallas FC and is undergoing construction work ahead of the new MLS season.
However, when Sweden arrived to train for their match against Japan, part of the section had fallen down of its own accord.
It’s reported that no one was on the scene so there were no injuries, but the collapse also wasn’t caused by adverse weather.
Sweden still trained normally ahead of a crunch match against Japan where the winner will take second place and progress to the World Cup knockout rounds.
Petra Thorén, spokeswoman for the Swedish national team said: “Something went wrong during the construction work.”
“I just saw what had happened, as far as I know, there was no storm,” midfielder Besfort Zeneli added.
According to team manager Stefan Pettersson, something went wrong during renovation work.
“They were trying to tear something down, and it looks like it fell in the wrong direction. Luckily, no one was injured,” he said.
More detailed photos showed that the collapse had taken on worker’s sheds on the stadium.
The Toyota Stadium is currently being renovated for $182million and won’t be fully completed until 2028.
Mayor Jeff Cheney recently commented: “When it is finished, it will be one of the most beautiful pure football stadiums in the world.”
