Jurgen Klopp was keen not to get involved with the row around Bastian Schweinsteiger.
Germany great Schweinsteiger is similarly a World Cup pundit like Klopp, and caused some internet drama after the country’s 2-1 win over Ivory Coast.
The 2006 winner described the African side’s football in terms that some deemed racist in German.
The words translated to “wild,” “unorthodox,” and “not quite so tactical,” referring to it as “African football.”
After a social media storm, Schweinsteiger returned to his role on ARD, and the issue wasn’t brought up, with some expected at least an apology.
As such, it’s now run and run, and Magenta pundit Klopp was asked to comment on the situation.
“And now you want to carry on this subject,” Klopp responded.
“I have no chance, no chance to answer this question [correctly].
“You bring me in a situation, it’s not my job if everybody likes it, this is a serious subject and I don’t even know what is appropriate to say.
“For African people it’s one thing for other people it’s another thing and I’m not here.
“I’m not here and think god I thought nobody would ask me about that, you found the moment.
“And surprisingly you are German! That surprised me so much! Thank you very much!” Klopp said, walking off, suggesting the reporter should’ve known better.
