Martin Hinteregger, who retired aged 29 due to far-right links, is under criminal investigation for assaulting a supporter.
The 67-cap Austria international and 2022 Europa League winner with Eintracht Frankfurt was coaching his hometown side SGA Sirnitz when the alleged incident took place.
On September 16 a video circulated on social media of the 32-year-old losing his temper and knocking over a fan.
It’s now emerged that the supporter reported the incident to the police who have now taken action.
Klaus Haslinglehner, the chairman of the area’s Football Association, said: “We have interrupted the proceedings and provisionally suspended him because criminal charges are still pending against him.
“Until a verdict is reached, Mr. Hinteregger is not allowed to carry out his role as coach or as a player in SGA Sirnitz matches.”
Hinteregger himself declined to comment.
The former defender retired in 2022 when links to an extremist politician emerged.
