Ahead of returning to Eintracht Frankfurt with Liverpool, Hugo Ekitike may be thanking his old side for sending him to England.
The French striker has gotten off to a fine start at Anfield after his €80million switch, out-performing far more expensive signings in Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz.
However, Frankfurt could’ve been in a tough position, as BILD have now claimed that Al Hilal offered €100m for the striker.
They add that sporting director Markus Krösche declined the offer, as Ekitike was desperate to join Liverpool.
Speaking about the player at the time, he said: “We had a clear agreement with Hugo, just as we did with Omar Marmoush, that we would find solutions if he wanted to take the step.
“We found them together with Liverpool in a highly professional and quiet manner.
“Hugo has the potential to become the best striker in the world. His talent is exceptional, as he often makes the right decisions both in possession and after winning the ball. He can score and assist goals, and he’s fast and technically strong.”
