Ajax head coach Oscar Garcia has confirmed his side will make a guard of honour for PSV this weekend.
Ajax host PSV on Saturday with their Champions League hopes hanging by a thread, but such has been the visitor’s dominance, there isn’t any vitriol.
“The club has decided that, so that is not a problem,” Garcia said.
“To me, that is the respect the champion deserves.
“It wasn’t exciting either. They became champions by a large margin.”
PSV won the Eredivisie at the earliest ever date and the squad have since been on a trip to Ibiza to celebrate.
That may benefit Ajax, but Garcia isn’t too interested.
“Even then, we have to approach the match as if they weren’t champions yet,” he said.
As is tradition, all opponents after a team mathematically become champions hold a guard of honour pre-match.
PEC Zwolle were the first, Ajax will be the second, and then two more Eredivisie rivals.
