Things are quickly spiralling out of control at Botafogo for both Davide Ancelotti and John Textor.
Owner Textor looked to have pulled off a blinder by landing Ancelotti Jnr whose profile was attracting plenty of interest after over a decade as his father’s assistant.
Yet the Italian has taken his side out of the Copa do Brasil and Copa Libertadores in his first 16 matches, and things have now gotten worse in the league too.
3-0 up against Mirassol last time out, Botafogo ended up drawing 3-3 for just a single win in their last five games.
‘Ancelotti out’ was heard from the crowd as was a chant of ‘shameless team’.
For Textor, it caps off a dreadful year where he’s had to step down as Lyon president and sell his Crystal Palace shares.
Speaking ahead of the game the American businessman said: “It’s a difficult job if you spend time thinking about what you’ve done.
“I have a list of 20 mistakes that I made, that we made. Easy, right?
“We were eliminated early from the Libertadores, from the Copa del Brasil. We failed in our main objective: winning cups.
“But we still have a lot to play for this year. These guys are proud. We’re going to give something good to the fans this year. I’m not going to list all my mistakes or we’d be here all night.”
