Botafogo are heading towards their fourth manager in less than a year after John Textor wielded the axe again.
Former disastrous FC Porto coach Martin Anselmi was let go despite ending a three-game losing run with victory over Bragantino in the Brasileirao where they sit in the relegation zone.
A club statement read: “Botafogo announces that the Argentine Martín Anselmi is no longer the head coach of the main team.
“The decision was communicated to the professional on the morning of this Sunday (22).
“Although we have great appreciation for Anselmi and his technical staff, as well as much respect for his dedication and work ethic, we did not see the evolution, progress, and results we expect from a championship club, and we believe a change is necessary to achieve our goals this season and beyond.
“In this way, the Club will pursue other paths in its sports project.
“John Textor and the Football Department are in the market looking for a new coach for the 2026 season challenges.
“Rodrigo Bellão, head coach of the Under-20 team, will take over the squad on an interim basis.
“The black-and-white squad will return to training next Tuesday (24), at Botafogo’s CT.
“Botafogo thanks Anselmi and his assistants for their services rendered and wishes them success in their next challenges.”
Anselmi was the second high-profile hire in succession, with last season ending under Davide Ancelotti.
A long time assistant of his legendary father Carlo, his tenure was twice the length of Anselmi at 162 days before Botafogo again has seen enough.
