Real Madrid’s transfer window has begun, with an unlikely source confirming it.
Madrid’s summer plans are now underway following Florentino Perez’s re-election, and Jose Mourinho will soon be announced as coach.
Ibrahima Konate is also set to be revealed as a free transfer, but he’s been beaten to the punch by Denzel Dumfries.
Yet it wasn’t the Dutch right-back who confirmed the move, but one of his former sides.
Dumfries joins Real Madrid
Fourth-tier outlet VV Smitshoek wrote on social media: “From Smitshoek to the Santiago Bernabéu.
“For eight years, he walked our pitches as a youth player, dreaming of reaching the highest level, and took his first steps in football at VV Smitshoek.
“Today, Denzel Dumfries signs for Real Madrid. A wonderful milestone in an impressive career and an inspiration to all the youngsters who train and play with us every week.
“Dreams start somewhere. For Denzel, it started here, at VV Smitshoek.
“We are incredibly proud of what he has achieved and wish him the very best of luck in Madrid!”
Then as much as confirming the move, Dumfries commented: “Thank you very much.”

Born in Rotterdam, Dumfries started out at the South Holland side as a kid before moving to BVV Barendrecht.
He then made his professional debut with Sparta Rotterdam in 2014, before switches in the Eredivisie to Heerenveen and later PSV.
Since 2021 he’s been with Inter Milan, making a name for himself as one of the game’s best right-backs.
However, as part of a deal to keep him, Inter allowed a release clause in this summers contract which could mean any club could sign him for just €25million.
Madrid acted fastest, and he’ll soon be officially announced while playing way at the World Cup in the Americas.
