AC Milan have received a blow in their pursuit of Ralf Rangnick.
The fallen Serie A giants are trying to rebuilt their management team with a dream partnership of Oliver Glasner as coach and Rangnick as technical director.
Rangnick is currently at the World Cup as Austria coach and has reportedly shut down talks with Milan for the time being to focus on the tournament.
And Austria are ready to take advantage.
Giving an update on the coach’s status, Josef Pröll, president of the Austrian Football Association, said: “We want him, he knows the key points of the renewal offer.
“We expect his decision in the coming days or weeks. I am very optimistic that he will choose Austria.
“He and I know what we can count on from each other because we communicate very openly.”
