Having faced a barrage of questions about his Real Madrid future, Carlo Ancelotti’s next destination may already be fixed.
The five-time Champions League winner saw his side crash out at the quarter-final stage thanks to a 5-1 defeat to Arsenal and reports suggest that’s enough for Los Blancos president Florentino Perez to say goodbye.
Ancelotti has long said he will retire when Madrid sack him, but reports from close friends and journalists suggest he’s now more open to carrying on.
That makes the sight of one guest at the Bernabeu even more fascinating.
A picture from the stands the morning after the match has shown Diego Fernandes in attendance – a Brazilian businessman with strong ties to the nation’s football federation and many of the game’s senior figures.
MARCA sources claim he was there to speak with Ancelotti, with the federation looking to discreetly close a deal before the FIFA deadline in March.
That would allow Ancelotti to continue the country’s faltering World Cup qualification campaign and be in situ for the 2026 tournament.
