Real Madrid’s 4-0 home Clasico defeat to Barcelona was worth more than three points to Carlo Ancelotti.
The Italian coach, who has won three Champions League titles with Los Blancos, was humbled at home by his side’s biggest rivals.
Barca tore the hosts to pieces in the second half, with new coach Hansi Flick completely outclassing Ancelotti with numerous tactical switches, including the introduction of Frenkie De Jong at half time.
Ancelotti only responded with his usual change of bringing on Luka Modric, allowing Flick to load up even more attackers and hammer Madrid, while continually playing Kylian Mbappe offside.
In the aftermath, the impeccably well-sourced Relevo.com has reported that Ancelotti is ‘losing more and more support at the club’.
He maintains his biggest backer, president Florentino Perez, who will try and keep him at the club even after his coaching career.
However, there important voices at the club high up and in the board who are increasingly opposed to the Italian. They don’t agree with his day-to-day work and handling of youngsters like Arda Guler.
Meanwhile, tensions are beginning in the dressing room with Madrid far less coherent than last season.
There’s also the issue of Antonio Pintus, Ancelotti’s fitness coach, with players suspicious about the numerous long-term injuries that have occurred over the past year.
All in all, Ancelotti is in a ‘very bad’ position at the club, and the Clasico defeat could echo throughout the season.
You’d still back him to win another Champions League, though.
