It all started so well for Andy Carroll and Bordeaux, but now reality is setting in.
The former Liverpool, West Ham and England striker continued his French adventure in the summer by joining the French giants who had just been administratively relegated to the fourth tier.
After a series of substitute appearances, he started showing his class with a run of six goals in four games, yet Bordeaux only won two of those matches.
Their form hasn’t been great either, and now following a 2-1 defeat to SC Locminé, they’re now a massive 11 points off leaders US Saint-Malo in first – the only position that earns promotion.
Supporters certainly realised how critical that defeat was, and took their anger out on referee Valentin Giorgetti.
The official gave Bordeaux two red cards in stoppage time and Locminé a penalty that allowed them to win the match.
The Stade Matmut-Atlantique vented their anger at Giorgetti with a barrage of abuse as he left the pitch, but unfortunately for him, it didn’t end there.
Refereeing at a lower level, Giorgetti has a second form of income from his website growth company, but perhaps not for much longer.
Bordeaux fans found his GetQuanty page and submitted it to a barrage of negative Google reviews causing the company’s rating to drop substantially.
Many later removed their reviews, and some posted positive ones as a counter-balance, but the refereeing union and Bordeaux still condemned the events.
“We demand that supporters remain respectful towards referees and opponents because nothing justifies hatred,” the club said.
