Benfica’s qualification for the 2025/26 Champions League has rocketed them up four places in UEFA’s club coefficients.
With a win over Fenerbahce in the final qualifying match, the Eagles join Europe’s top 10, leapfrogging Atletico Madrid, Chelsea, Arsenal and Roma.
The first two of those are particularly ironic, given the huge transfer fees they’ve paid for players like Enzo Fernandez and Joao Felix have kept the Benfica afloat and competitive over the past years.
In fact, the four clubs combined have paid Benfica over €400million in transfer fees, as per transfermarkt data.
Rankings determine clubs’ Champions League pots, and although Benfica enter this year’s draw with their 2024/25 ranking of 15th, they will get an even more favourable draw next year should they hold onto 10th.
