Jose Mourinho will not speak to the media ahead of this weekend’s trip to Rio Ave, Benfica have announced.
The European treble-winning coach will instead answer questions from the club’s in house media which will be broadcast on TV and YouTube.
Mourinho last spoke to the press after a 1-0 defeat to Porto which virtually ended his trophy chances for the season.
That saw Benfica exit the Portuguese Cup seven days on from defeat to Braga in the League Cup, while the domestic league title and Champions League appear out of reach.
This isn’t the first time Mourinho has pulled such a move, and he won’t be able to the following week as UEFA rules guarantee his presence before a European clash with Juventus.
Benfica are already out of the play-off places in the league phase of the competition and should they exit Europe too, his future will undoubtedly be called into question.
Speaking after losing to Porto, he said: “I was hired to bring titles to Benfica in a difficult situation.
“Are the fans with me? Why are you asking me that question? I’m not important, Benfica is important.”
