While every World Cup team is making plans for the heat, Belgium are taking things to the extreme.
Rudi Garcia’s side are having a final throw of the dice with their ‘Golden Generation‘ who drew their opener 1-1 with Egypt.
Garcia brought back a number of former greats in Romelu Lukaku, Kevin De Bruyne and Thibaut Courtois.
As such, the Frenchman has used some unusual training techniques to get the over 30s in form.
Belgium’s extreme heat training
According to Mundo Deportivo, after each training session, the Belgian players are forced to take ‘scalding showers’ followed by ‘a session in the sauna, at extremely high temperatures’.
The outlet calls is a form of ‘reverse training’ with players deliberately cooking themselves rather than cooling down to deal with the conditions.
Despite all their preparation, Belgium needed a late Lukaku intervention to draw against Egypt in the Seattle heat.
Next up is Iran in the similarly hot California, but conditions are expected to only be 22 degrees due to the late kick-off, as compared to the 30 in Seattle.
