Kevin De Bruyne has offered a grown up response to losing the Belgium captain’s armband.
The issue of who took the honour dominated the team after Jan Vertonghen’s retirement, with Thibaut Courtois allegedly removing himself from selection after missing out.
Napoli‘s De Bruyne took over the honour, but under new head coach Rudi Garcia the armband was rotated for few fixtures before landing on Youri Tielemans’ arm.
Responding to the decision, De Bruyne told the media: “At the beginning of the week, the coach explained his decision to Romelu (Lukaku, vice captain) and me.
“I can understand it. I’m no longer the youngest. He opted for a boy who can still play for eight to ten years.”
