Thibaut Courtois had some tough questions to answer upon his return to Belgium’s squad.
The Real Madrid shot-stopper dropped out of the team in late 2023 after a spectacular fallout with then-manager Domenico Tedesco.
Courtois missed all of 2024, including the Euros, but now that Tedesco has been replaced by Rudi Garcia, he’s back.
The man who stood in for him Koen Casteels, is not at all happy, and has withdrawn from the squad, claiming other players are also upset about the Madrid man abandoning his country.
Courtois addressed those abandonment claims first off, saying: “Obviously I apologise for how it happened, they are still having trouble accepting it.
“I can understand that there were false stories or at least not the whole truth.
“It’s hard to change the public’s opinion, the only way is to play and continue to win with the team. If we do that, I hope the relationship will return to what it was, I always received a lot of love.”
However, he wasn’t so delecate with Casteels, adding: “I have no problem with him. I only had problems with one person, not with the players. I simply reiterated my availability.
“I don’t know what Koen is talking about when he says there are still players who think like that. In fact, if you don’t tell the whole truth, you should keep quiet.”
