Often critical of former side Bayern Munich, leading German pundit Lothar Matthaus has no complaints at all about their coaching choice of Vincent Kompany.
Bayern have 13 wins from 13 to start the season and finally look like a settled team for the first time since Hansi Flick’s 2020 treble win.
The club have responded by extending Kompany’s contract until 2029, and Matthaus is delighted.
“With Kompany, we’ve hit the jackpot,” he said.
“Kompany has once again involved the players in his decisions and has spoken clearly, openly, and honestly.
“He has reinvented FC Bayern after four or five years of turmoil and has done many things the club had missed during those years.
“If they maintain this performance, they’ll be one of the big favourites for the Champions League.”
