While everything is going swimmingly at Bayern Munich, Vincent Kompany was keen to point out some desperation surrounding Nicolas Jackson.
The Chelsea loanee was Bayern’s Man of the Match on Friday night in a 4-1 win over Gladbach, scoring and working his socks off on the other three goals.
Post-match Kompany was as impressive as ever, launching a defence of the Senegalese striker.
“When the results are good and most things are going well for the team, I’ve noticed over the last 18 months that you always have to pick out one or two players for no apparent reason,” he explained.
“Last year it was often Serge Gnabry or maybe Kingsley Coman, now it’s Nicolas Jackson.
“The lad didn’t play badly, didn’t do anything wrong, trained superbly, and returned from the Africa Cup of Nations as a champion.”
Sporting director Max Eberl added: “His scoring rate during the time he plays is very, very good.”
