You’d have thought Barcelona would have learned from the Dani Olmo fiasco, but no.
The Spanish giants are set to again defy LaLiga and Football Federation rules, this time not to buy a player, but to sell one.
Mundo Deportivo report that despite rules in Spain making it clear you can’t sell a player outside the transfer window, Barca have found a FIFA loophole to shift Vitor Roque to Palmerias.
The Brazilian winter transfer window shuts on February 28th, and there’s hope in Barcelona that the side he’s loaned at, Real Betis will help get a deal done.
Roque was signed from Athletico Paranaense at the start of 2024 to join in the summer, but the deal was brought forward to get him in the team.
There he failed to impress, and has since gone on loan to Betis, where he’s criticised Barca and now gone out of favour too.
Defying LaLiga and the RFEF is nothing new for Barca, who caused widespread anger in January when they successfully appealed to the High Council for Sports over the league and federation for blocking Olmo’s registration.
The midfielder didn’t fit under their fair play limits, and the loophole led to over a dozen LaLiga teams releasing statements condemning the action.
