With the full details of Ballon d’Or voting now available to the public, three journalists have been getting in the neck over Vinicius Jr.
France Football have listed the full votes, which show that winner Rodri only beat Real Madrid’s Vinicius by 41 points.
However, it’s also emerged that of the 100 journalists who voted on the honour, three didn’t even have Vinicius in their top 10.
They were Bruno Porzio from El Salvador, Sheefeni Nikodemus from Namibia and Juha Kanerva from Finland.
Kanerva in particular got plenty of stick from Madrid fans due to his social media presence, and he’s now responded.
“This was my technical fault, for which I take responsibility,” he said. “I am leaving my post as Ballon d’Or voter.”
Despite his error, even if Kanerva voted for ‘Vini’ in first, it wouldn’t have made a difference.
Voters award points for their top 10, with the first receiving 10, and the 10th one, meaning Vinicius would still be short of the 41 needed to bridge the gap to Rodri.
