Arda Guler’s former agent has made some shock allegations about his struggles at Real Madrid.
Guler switched from Fenerbahce to the Bernabeu in 2023 with hype as the next Mesut Ozil, but it hasn’t quite worked out.
Despite glimpses of his class, the Turk has rarely played 90 minutes under Carlo Ancelotti, Xabi Alonso or Alvaro Arbeloa.
And according to Serhat Pekmezci, who took Guler from Gençlerbirliği to Fener, his teammates need to take plenty of the blame.
“The bullying came from the players,” he told Sports Digitale.
“There’s a group there that hasn’t been able to accept Arda; unfortunately, they’re players with very big egos.
“Even though Real Madrid is a megaclub, Arda Güler is being bullied. It’s not that he complained to me, but he knew this would happen. I told him to be patient.”
Pekmezci went on to say it’s the same problem that led to Alonso’s sacking.
“He thinks, ‘Why is it always me?’” he continued.
“He said that some players need to leave so that he can arrive. That’s why Xabi Alonso left too.”
Arda Guler’s sharp rise and fall under Xabi Alonso
Guler became a regular under Alonso at the Club World Cup, but dropped off surprisingly quickly.
Speaking about the Turk at the time, the Spaniard said: “He has a lot of qualities, he’s a special player.
“He has a very wide range of passes, we play better with him, but he needs to learn, develop his game better. It’s time to invest in Arda so he can progress.”
