Arda Guler looks set to become a fixture under Xabi Alonso at Real Madrid, and now we know why.
The Turk played five out of six games under the Spaniard at the Club World Cup and was arguably Los Blancos‘ best player.
Signed in 2023 from Fenerbahce, the 20-year-old never had regular minutes under Carlo Ancelotti, but AS have explained why Alonso is trusting him so much.
They report that Guler now lives in Madrid with ‘his physio, his fitness trainer, and his chef’ and that ‘the three of them have adapted their diet and their work at home to enhance a body that now truly resembles that of a midfielder’.
Guler has gained 8kilos in the gym and it ‘totally committed’ to his new lifestyle.
It’s also added that 39-year-old Luka Modric was taking up his minutes under Ancelotti, with Alonso’s preference for Guler one of the reasons the Croatian was let go.
Further discussing Guler, Alonso said: “He has a lot of qualities, he’s a special player.
“He has a very wide range of passes, we play better with him, but he needs to learn, develop his game better. It’s time to invest in Arda so he can progress.”
