Antonio Conte is famous for turning clubs toxic, but not usually before the season’s even started.
However, at Napoli, he’s already turned things ugly before a ball’s even been kicked.
The former Juventus, Chelsea and Inter coach landed in Naples hoping to turn around an appalling season last time out where they finished 10th in Serie A.
However, despite holding onto key players Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Victor Osimhen, Conte doesn’t see things getting much better.
“Honestly, I expected to find a better situation than the one I found, hoping for some good surprises. I had a hard time finding any,” he said before the opener against Verona.
“Napoli will suffer this season, we will all have to give more than our maximum, including me. Those who think that last year’s 10th place was due to bad luck or bad luck are far from the truth.
“It is a critical moment for Napoli, the president [Aurelio De Laurentiis] spoke of a reconstruction. I agree with him: we need a total reconstruction. It will take a lot of patience and humility from everyone.”
