Borussia Dortmund’s Felix Nmecha has shot to the top of Real Madrid’s summer wishlist.
Sky Germany report that Jose Mourinho is desperate to land the box-to-box midfielder after stunning for Dortmund and Germany.
Nmecha scored his country’s opener in their 7-1 win over Curacao and has long been linked with the world’s best sides.
Inconsistent and with a quiet personality, this was arguably his breakthrough season for club and country.
Mourinho has reportedly made inquiries about Nmecha, with former side Manchester City also interested, along with neighbours United.
Dortmund want to keep Nmecha
However, Dortmund are in the driving seat, having extended Nmecha’s contract in March until 2030.
The deal came with a release clause of €70million, but that only becomes active next summer, meaning any deal this year will be very costly indeed.
Similarly, Dortmund aren’t interested in a sale, and will only do so for a mega offer. Their transfer record stands as €148m for Ousmane Dembele to Barcelona in 2017.
Showing just how in demand Nmecha is, Sky revealed a talk between the player and national team coach Julian Nagelsmann pre-tournament.
Nmecha ‘can be the best in the world’
They claim that in a meeting with his assistant coaches he told the player he wouldn’t only be a starter at the World Cup, but if he stays fit, he can become the best player in the world in his position.
They add: “During the meeting, which took place in Herzogenaurach, Nagelsmann is said to have expressed his immense appreciation for Nmecha and made it clear that the German team’s performance in the tournament depended on him.”
Publicly, Nagelsmann has called Nmecha ‘world class’ while teammate Kai Havertz has also been full of praise.
“There’s nothing he doesn’t bring to the table,” the Arsenal forward said.
“You feel very safe when you have a player like that behind you.”
