Jose Mourinho and Borussia Dortmund seems like a match made in hell, but according to ‘The Special One’ it almost happened.
The 2010 European treble winner with Inter Milan was working as a pundit at Euro 2024 when he made the revelation.
“When I was about to go to Borussia Dortmund a few years ago, I learned German,” he said. “It wasn’t easy, but I tried.”
The newly-appointed Fenerbahce coach didn’t reveal when the move almost happened, but there were rumblings back in 2019 when Lucien Favre was under pressure and Mourinho was looking for work after leaving Manchester United.
At the time Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke revealed that he was friends with Mourinho, who, in turn expressed his admiration for the Bundesliga and German football.
BVB sports director Michael Zorc rejected the rumours, though, and Favre stayed, while Mourinho had an ill-fated stint at Tottenham.
