It turns out Andy Carroll wasn’t lying when he said he didn’t join Bordeaux for the money.
Everyone was desperately trying to find out how much the man who was formerly Britain’s most expensive footballer is being paid in France’s fourth tier, and local outlet Sud Ouest claim to have the information.
The rumours were initially €3500 or €2000 per-month, but the outlet claim Carroll’s salary is just €1,614 per-month.
That figure is less than half the average wage in France, where Carroll has played since 2023, first with Amiens.
Sud Ouest add that Carroll will receive a bonus of €2000 if he reaches 10 goals or assists, and he already has five for the season in three games. The same sum will be added for every five he scores after that.
Furthermore, Carroll’s salary will increase to €13,000 per-month next season if he stays with Bordeaux.
It’s estimated that the Englishman’s current salary makes him the 15th best-paid player in the squad.
