One of those rare player who just gets what it’s like to be a football fan, Ander Herrera has picked a joyous location to end his career.
The former Manchester United and PSG man has left Athletic Bilbao for Boca Juniors to cap off a stunning list of clubs, but not everyone is happy.
The Spaniard visited Boca’s iconic Bombonera last summer in their legendary blue and yellow kit, and now gets to wear it as a player.
Turning up for an iconic unveiling everyone was buzzing to see him, except one fan of his first-ever club Real Zaragoza.
At his arrival, a supporter in a Zaragoza shirt was heard shouting: “Ander, let’s meet up later, please. Long live Zaragoza, long live the lion, let’s get out of these 12 years.”
The fan was referring to Zaragoza’s 12 years out of LaLiga in the second tier, and thankfully Argentinian outlet Ole managed to get an interview with him.
“He has to talk to me, I don’t know why he’s here and not in Zaragoza,” he said. “But anyway, I want to talk to him, everything’s fine.
“We have to help him get Zaragoza to the First Division once and for all. I’m a Zaragoza fan.”
Later explaining why he chose Boca over Zaragoza who he was with from 2001 to 2011, Herrera said: “I am joining a team with a unique history and an incomparable passion.
“My father worked here for a long time, he spoke to me a lot about Boca and I still have that passion.
“Playing here is something unique and it gives you goosebumps. Now it is time to enjoy it.”
