Everyone’s favourite football agent – Veronique Rabiot – is back to her best at Marseille.
The mother of Adrien Rabiot finds her son in the centre of a storm, with OM transfer listing him after a post-match bust-up with Jonathan Rowe.
Rowe was also put up for sale with the pair reportedly needing separating after going head-to-head following a 1-0 opening day Ligue 1 defeat to Rennes.
The story has dominated French football, and now Marseille president Pablo Longoria has spoken out amid claims the transfer listing was for financial reasons with Rabiot having just one year left on his contract.
“Throughout the month of June, we called Adrien every day because we absolutely wanted him to continue with us,” Longoria told AFP.
“Last season, before the end of the championship, we offered him an extension, with a salary increase. Because he had earned it on the pitch and through his commitment off the pitch.
“I repeat that for me, he was the example of what we wanted to build.”
Longoria then recalled a rather amusing mishap with Rabiot’s representative, who is his mother.
“We had a first meeting, then there was a second one that couldn’t take place because his representative told us it was too hot,” Longoria said.
“I’m not lying. If we wanted to change, it would have been easier to do it in June.”
