Adrien Rabiot’s mother and agent has given her long awaited take on her son’s Marseille bust-up.
The France midfielder reportedly went head-to-head with teammate Jonathan Rowe after a 1-0 Ligue 1 opening defeat to Rennes and the players have both now been dropped from the squad and transfer listed.
Both OM president Pablo Longoria and director of football Medhi Benatia have since spoken out saying they’ve never seen such violence, while the latter even claimed a youth team player fainted.
In her response, Veronique Rabiot said: “What does ‘unheard-of violence’ mean?
“No one was injured, no one went to the hospital, there were no broken noses, no split lips, no stitches, so I don’t really understand. ‘Unheard-of violence,’ I don’t believe it.
“The altercation? I don’t dispute it, and neither does Adrien. I’ll let him tell his own story. What surprises me is that we know that in the locker room, there was the coach and Mr. Benatia.
“How can we imagine that there was an altercation of unheard-of violence and that no one intervened? I don’t believe it, and no one believes it anyway.”
Adding her thoughts on the club executives, she said: “I really think that the president and the director of football have a suit that is too big for them.
“I think that they are not in their place, that they do not have the profile for the position, and that they are devoured by their pride and their oversized ego , and that they are incapable of controlling their emotions.”
