Adrien Rabiot has discussed his fight with Jonathan Rowe that saw both of the players sold by Marseille to Serie A.
The pair were reportedly in a head-to-head bust-up after an opening day Ligue 1 defeat, with club bosses claiming there was ‘unseen violence’ and one youth team player even fainted.
As a result Rabiot and Rowe were both dropped from the squad and transfer listed, with the former heading to AC Milan and the latter Bologna.
Rather remarkably, Rabiot’s first match for Milan is against Rowe’s Bolgona, and the French midfielder dismissed any tension in his first press conference with his new club.
“I told the Marseille fans everything in a post on Instagram,” he said of OM.
“They’ve always treated me well, it was an intense season, I’ve experienced beautiful things, and I’ll always be grateful to the fans.
“Rowe? There’s nothing special, we even spoke when he signed for Bologna and I signed for Milan, we exchanged messages to wish each other well and to see each other at San Siro.
“It’ll be nice to see him, he’s a good guy, what happened is a locker room thing that can happen anywhere.”
Rabiot had earlier posted a farewell message to Marseille on Instagram, writing: “Dear Marseille supporters, before I start my new adventure in Milan I wanted to send you a message.
“Since the first day I arrived in Marignane, you did not attach importance to my Parisian past, and immediately adopted me as a Marseillean, until I left.
“Throughout the season you’ve encouraged, accompanied, carried, applauded… You have been of steadfast support.
“I felt this fervour, this passion, this love of football that encourages you and makes Marseille a unique city and club in France.
“I will never forget the atmosphere of the Velodrome. The chants, the cheering, the joys of celebrations and especially the indescribable feeling of scoring in this stadium…
“It will be an immense pleasure to defend your colours, those of the Marseille Olympics. Thank you for all the Blue & White people.”
