Just as the first piece of the AC Milan jigsaw fell into place, two have been put back in the box.
Milan announced a deal for Ruben Amorim to become their new head coach, a decent signing given his career before Manchester United and Italian style tactics.
There were still three more positions to fill, that of the CEO, technical director and sporting director after a mass firing at the end of last season.
Milan had deals ready for Eintracht Frankfurt duo Markus Krosche as CEO and Timmo Hardung as sporting director.
Milan’s plans fall through again
However, multiple reports in Italy now claim that Frankfurt have stepped in to block both deals.
Krosche had held multiple talks with Milan and agreed terms verbally, but awkwardly for the Italian side, they have very little power against Frankfurt’s will.
Krosche is contracted until 2028 and he actually also sits on the club’s board, meaning resignation is not possible without the club’s approval.
Frankfurt’s board have blocked the move with the club in full swing planning next season, so Milan will have to look elsewhere unless their stance drastically changes.
The news naturally ends Hardung’s signing too, with him working under Krosche and was to arrive as part of the deal.
Making things even more awkward, is that Gazzetta dello Sport claim Amorim was actually Krosche’s choice as coach.
Milan could now turn to one of Amorim’s former Benfica teammates, Jose Boto, but the show of incompetence isn’t a great sign amid an already chaotic summer.
Milan sacked Max Allegri and all three executives above him in a huge clear out having missed out on Champions League football.
Yet despite the huge upheaval and work left to do, senior advisor Zlatan Ibrahimovic appears to have been given the job.
The controversial Swede has instead been busy as a World Cup pundit, bringing the fury of Milan fans.
And to make matters worse, the club’s president and owner, Gerry Cardinale, was spotted alongside Ibrahimovic at the UFC White House event, infuriating fans that no one is on the ground in Milan during one of their most crucial summers in recent history.
It’s been reported that the club already missed out on Ralf Rangnick as sporting director due to a lack of seriousness, meaning Krosche may not be the only other signing they miss out on.
