Still loved at former club Liverpool, Xabi Alonso has made an enemy with a certain selection of the team’s fans.
The Real Madrid coach was responding after Atletico Madrid suffered defeat at Anfield and their coach Diego Simeone lost it with some supporters.
Liverpool scored a late stoppage time winner and Simeone was then pictured in the crowd, with images later showing one individual berating him throughout the match.
Responding to what he saw, Alonso took the side of Simeone, saying: “The situation on the pitch has been out of control for some time.
“Ideally, we wouldn’t have to experience such scenes in the first place. I’m not complaining; I don’t suffer too much personally, but other colleagues suffer significantly more.
“Unfortunately, you have to learn to deal with it, otherwise it all gets to you. Such situations become more frequent when you show weakness.
“I haven’t had too many incidents myself, but on the football pitches, things have been out of control for some time.”
