Dutchman certainly aren’t popular in the Bundesliga this season with Paul Simonis following Erik ten Hag over the border after Wolfsburg confirmed his departure.
The 40-year-old recorded three wins and seven defeats in 12 games, well below what was expected of him after last season.
In 2024/25 he guided Go Ahead Eagles to their first major honour, winning the KNVB Cup by beating AZ in the final.
That made him one of the hottest properties in Europe, and Ajax reportedly chased his signature before having to settle for John Heitinga.
Heitinga is now gone, though, and Ajax could find themselves in a strong position, having lost out on both Ten Hag and Simonis over the summer.
Ten Hag was sacked by Bayer Leverkusen after three league games, just months on from rejecting a return to Amsterdam.
Yet now unemployed, Simonis could well becoming a target and rival once again.
