Erik ten Hag could be back on his way to Ajax with the Eredivisie giants on the brink of sacking John Heitinga.
Ajax lost 3-0 at home to Galatasaray on Wednesday night to leave them bottom of the league phase of the Champions League.
Leading Dutch outlet AD claim that technical director Alex Kroes held a meeting with Ten Hag a few days before the defeat, although sources claim it was ‘just a coffee meeting that had been planned for some time’.
Yet they add that Kroes previously tried to tempt Ten Hag into a return during the summer before his ill-fated stint at Bayer Leverkusen.
On top of that, Kroes knows such a hire is his only chance of keeping his job.
Ajax’s supporters have also had their say, asking for Heitinga’s sacking.
“This is no longer sustainable. The decline in the sport must be halted now,” one group wrote.
“The AFCA Supporters Club has enormous respect for Heitinga as a player. But now we are judging him as a coach.”
