Pablo Maffeo has heated up his rather bizarre rivalry with Vinicius Jr before Real Madrid and Mallorca face off in the Copa del Rey.
The Spanish right-back became an instant meme when he did a crybaby gesture with his hands at Vinicius in 2023.
It turned out that he’d already done it a year before, and that Vinicius provoked him by saying the island side would be relegated.
However, in April 2024 Maffeo ended up with egg on his face when Mallorca lost the Copa del Rey final to Athletic Bilbao and he was filmed crying, much to the enjoyment of Real Madrid fans.
The right-back will again come face-to-face with the left-winger in the semi-finals of the Spanish Super Cup and was interviewed before the match about his biggest passion in life – boxing.
Maffeo regularly trains, and when asked about taking part in a proper fight, he said: “I would like to. In fact, when I retire I’m thinking about doing a fight just to know what it feels like.
He also insisted that if he received an offer to fight “he would really want to go” despite being aware that Mallorca would not be very happy.
Then asked about what would happen if he was offered a fight with Vinicius, he replied: It’s a world apart, a fictional life. But it could be the most watched fight in history.
“I think I would win. I would knock him out in 10 seconds.”
